Folk Art Spool Candle Stand

Folk Art Spool Candle Stand

$1,600.00

USA, ca. 1880s. An inventive and unusual candle stand most likely assembled by a textile worker. Features playful splayed leg form fashioned from discarded spools and wood packaging crates. The rectangular top was once covered in red silk, which is now long gone. Stenciled logo to underside references the mill town of Oswego, NY. Would make for a clever small side table in a guest room, plant stand, or pleasing decorative object. We love the idea of someone building a utilitarian object from the material waste of the Industrial Revolution. A true example of the ingenuity of American folk art. In overall very good antique condition. Dimensions: 15” wide x 12.5” deep x 30.25” high.
