Thebes Stool No. 2

Thebes Stool No. 2
England, ca. 1900. An attractive Egyptian Revival Thebes stool most likely produced by Liberty & Co., London. Features solid oak construction with a comfortable concave slatted top supported by tapered ring-turned legs. Decorative struts and horizontal stretchers add support and visual interest.
Inspired by 19th century archaeological excavations - and the Victorian obsession with all things Egyptian - the stool takes its name from ancient city of Thebes where pieces like this were found in the tombs of royalty. Leonard Wyburd, one of the main designers for Liberty & Co., patented his designs for the stools in 1884 - with production lasting until the end of WWI.
Professionally refurbished, the condition is excellent with a warm patina to the oak surface.
Dimensions: 15.75” wide x 15.75” deep x 14.75” high.
