2 Pairs of Hans Wegner Peacock Chairs

2 Pairs of Hans Wegner Peacock Chairs

$12,000.00

Denmark, ca. 1960s. Two fantastic, early pairs of Model JH-550 Peacock Chairs by Hans Wegner for Johannes Hansen. Wegner first introduced the ‘Peacock’ chair in 1947, drawing influence from the traditional English Windsor form. Each features solid ash construction with teak paddle armrests. Rush-style seats are made with handwoven paper cord. Fellow designer and friend Finn Juhl is said to have first suggested the curved, fan-shaped backrest resembled the plumage of a peacock. Flat contours of the spindles are oriented at shoulder height, providing comfort and support. Stunning from all angles, these are sure to become the focal point of any living room, den, or library.

While currently produced by PP Møbler, Johannes Hansen was the first maker of this design, which was never put into mass production during Wegner’s lifetime. All in excellent original condition with Johannes Hansen branded mark to underside.

Dimensions: 30.25” wide x 29.75” deep x 41.75” high; 14.5” seat height.

Listed price is for a pair. Two pairs available.
