Dynamic Hard-Edge Painting
Dynamic Hard-Edge Painting
USA, ca. 1970s. An attractive oil on canvas painting with great sense of movement to it. Rendered in shades of blue and green, this piece by an unknown artist is sure to liven up any space - whether one sees birds, fish, or even an aerial view of islands. (A private island sounds great right about now…)
Very much of the period, the term “hard-edge” painting was coined in 1959 by writer, curator, and LA Times art critic Jules Langsner - along with Peter Selz - to describe the work of several modernist California painters. A reaction to the painterly and gestural forms of abstract expressionism, the hard-edge approach employed geometry and color to create a bold new style.
Professionally mounted in a new white wood floating frame, which really makes the work pop. Signed and dated to lower right corner and in excellent vintage condition.
Dimensions: 39” wide x 15” high x 1.5” deep.
