Yanomami Woven Basket
Yanomami Woven Basket
$325.00
Brazil/Venezuela, ca. 1900. A stunning and soulful gathering basket from the Yanomami. An indigenous tribe living within the Amazon rainforests, the Yanomami are one of the least Westernized groups in South America. The baskets are made by women from woody vines and then decorated with masticated charcoal pigment. Features finely woven and graceful form with dark brown patina. Only subtle traces of original pattern remain. Still quite sturdy and in overall very good condition considering its age. Dimensions: 12” diameter x 6.25” high.
