Swedish Wood Dala Horse

Swedish Wood Dala Horse
$75.00
Sweden, ca. 1940s. A charming carved wood Dala horse with hand-painted decoration. Beginning in the 17th century, small wooden horses were sold at markets in the villages of Dalarna in central Sweden. A hundred years later, these same figures were still being made my men working in the forests during long winter nights - and then brought back to the villages as children’s toys. Eventually, traveling merchants would use the horses as payment for room or board. These have since become a symbol of Swedish pride and culture. A fun bit of folk at in excellent condition.
Dimensions: 4.5” wide x 1.5” deep x 5.25” high.
