Framed Kuba Panel
Framed Kuba Panel
$700.00
Democratic Republic of the Congo, ca. 1970s. A graphic framed fragment of handwoven Kuba cloth in a contemporary black frame. Traditionally made by the indigenous communities of the Congo, the process of making Kuba is extremely time consuming. Fashioned from the leaves of the raffia tree, and usually woven by men, each pattern has imbedded meanings of social status and family history. With its striking rhythm and visual appeal, it’s understandable why Klimt, Klee, and Matisse collected this material - and how its profound impact on modern art is undeniable. Dimensions: 25.25” wide x 59.25” high x 1” deep.
