Primitive American House Paintings
Primitive American House Paintings
USA, ca. early 20th century. Two charming paintings of yellow houses that grabbed our attention for different reasons. The smaller, unframed oil on board probably dates to the early 1900s - maybe even the late 1800s. Folky and atmospheric, one can imagine approaching this little camp on a warm summer day. Lemonade and cold chicken in the ice box. The second framed oil on board painting, while a bit more stately in its architecture, has a supremely appealing naiveté to it. Clearly someone cherished this home and wished to protect the memory of it - as if that little white picket fence would stand duty forever. Both in overall very good antique condition. Unsigned. Quite sweet and soulful.
