Antique Mahogany Carlton House Desk
England, ca. late 19th century. An elegant Carlton House desk after an earlier design by George Hepplewhite. Features mahogany construction with subtle satinwood inlay and inset brown leather writing surface. Lower portion includes five drawers - while upper portion includes six smaller drawers and two petite corner cabinets. Brass drawers pulls, escutcheons, sabots, and gallery rail enhance an already elegant form.
Originally designed for George IV (1762-1830), while still the Prince of Whales, for his London residence Carlton House. This particular example was once owned by a member of the Biddle family of Philadelphia. Lightly professionally refurbished and in overall excellent antique condition. Sure to be the centerpiece of any home office or library.
