Japan, ca, 1920s. An understated yet elegant antique tansu or ishodansu from the Taishō era. Features kiri wood (also known as Paulownia) construction in three sections - all fitted with traditional iron hardware. Originally designed to hold kimono, obi, and other accessories, this example offers generous storage with three small drawers and two large drawers. Upper cabinet opens to reveal a shelf perfect for jewelry - while the middle cabinet contains three pull-out shelves. Professionally refurbished and in overall excellent antique condition.
A clean and functional design - yet with a warm surface patina - that can easily be incorporated into a range of interior styles.
