Pair of Nienkämper Leather Lounge Chairs

Pair of Nienkämper Leather Lounge Chairs

$4,200.00

Canada, ca. 1970s. A handsome pair of well proportioned lounge chairs by Klaus Nienkämper (1940-2024). Each features an accommodating design with original full-grain chocolate brown leather upholstery. Architectural turned aluminum legs enhance form and create a sense of visual lightness. Quite comfortable and in overall excellent vintage condition with attractive patina. Early decal to underside. Perfect for a study, den, or living room - we love their lived-in, inviting feel.

Born in Germany, Klaus Nienkämper made his way to Canada at the young age of 20 - after already working for Knoll International in Düsseldorf followed by a stint in Finland at Asko. Rejecting his family’s antiques business, Nienkämper embraced modern design and would become an important figure in the world of contemporary furniture. Eventually founding his eponymous company in Toronto, he positioned himself perfectly as consumers became more open to the possibilities of modern forms. This was helped in part by the success of Expo 67 in Montreal - a world’s fair exposition that became a major moment for showcasing experimental design and architecture to a larger international audience.

Dimensions: 35” wide x 36” deep x 31” high; 15” seat height.
