China, ca. late 19th century. A sculptural pair of antique side chairs. Often referred to as “official’s hat chairs” due to their protruding yoke-shaped top rails, which resemble the headdresses of Ming Dynasty officials. Each features solid elm construction with original worn dark red finish. Sturdy with honest and wear, these would make attractive hall or accent chairs. In overall very good antique condition.
