Sigvard Bernadotte Settee

Sigvard Bernadotte Settee

$2,200.00

Denmark, ca. 1950s. A scarce Model FD132 settee or bench by Sigvard Bernadotte for France & Daverkosen - retailed by John Stuart of NYC. Features solid beech frame with light amber finish, double seat, and adjustable curved backrests. Original textured leatherette upholstery was often used on this series. To us, it brings to mind the marbled endpapers of antique books. Quite comfortable with a versatile scale, this piece would be perfect at the foot of a bed, in a foyer, etc. Condition is excellent.

The second son of King Gustav VI Adolf of Sweden and brother of Queen Ingrid of Denmark, Sigvard Bernadotte (1907-2002) was an accomplished industrial designer. The Model FD132 chair and settee are the only designs he completed for France & Daverkosen, and were included in the original decor of London's Carlton Tower Hotel.

Dimensions: 45" wide x 24" deep x 33" high; 17" seat height.
