Art Deco Oak Screen w. Paris Map
Art Deco Oak Screen w. Paris Map
$2,500.00
France, ca. 1930s. An unusual Art Deco folding screen decorated with the Turgot map of Paris. Features four-panel oak construction with an espresso finish and floral fabric backing. Originally published in 1739, this highly accurate map depicts Paris as it existed in the 1730s. It was commissioned by Michel-Étienne Turgot, drawn by the surveyor Louis Bretez, and engraved by Claude Lucas. Graphic and visually compelling, this piece brings to mind the work of Italian designer and artist Piero Fornasetti. Overall excellent vintage condition.
