Antique Japanese Lacquer Box
Antique Japanese Lacquer Box
$575.00
Japan, ca. 1920s or 1930s. A lovely lacquer document or storage box most likely for the Shōwa period. Features thoughtful almost Art Deco design with stylized persimmon relief. Referred to as Takamakie, this type of intricate high-relief carving is incredibly labor intensive. Symbolically, persimmons represent autumn - or indicate transformation and growth in Buddhism. Deeply carved with rich tones and soft patina. Condition is excellent.
Dimensions: 13” wide x 9.5” deep x 4.25” high.
