USA, ca. early 19th century. A charming antique miniature folk art portrait in ebonized wood frame. Rendered in graphite, we were drawn to the somewhat androgynous sitter’s pleasing and carefully captured face. Earrings, billowing sleeves, and draped shawl add personality - while the book suggests an educational or religious interest. Reminiscent of Dutch colonial portraits from the 18th century, we were drawn to its simplicity and sensitivity. Just a lovely item to live with. Overall very good antique condition.
