USA, ca. 1960s. A dramatic and intimate woodblock portrait by Boston and Taos artist Alice Acker (1935-1981). Sister of the painter Reynolds Beal, Acker studied at the Boston Museum School, in Holland, and with Andre L’hote in Paris. Her work is in numerous collections including the Philips Collection of Modernist American Art in Washington, D.C. Acker died young, and as a result her work is relatively scarce.
