USA, ca. 1940s. A charming and evocative watercolor city scene by WPA era artist Joseph (Jack) Hochfeld. Hochfeld lived and worked in New York City as an artist and illustrator during the Depression completing murals for the Works Progress Administraton and magazine covers before photographic covers became commonplace. His works were shown in the 1939 World’s Fair and one painting of his is in the Smithsonian’s American Art Museum. A member of the New York Watercolor Society, Hochfeld died in 1984. In overall very good vintage condition with appropriate signs of age. Dimensions: 24” wide x 22” high. Item: 2244-23.
