Italy, ca. 1970s. An intriguing Model 713/714 coffee table by Theodore Waddell for Cassina. From his Tensegrity series, it features a round glass top supported by a sculptural base of chromed steel tubes connected by steel tension wires. The outcome of Waddell’s earlier exploration of how design tables with light frames, it was inspired by the architecture of tensile structures and is one of the first uses of suspension cables in furniture.
