Denmark, ca. 1950s. A classic Papa Bear or Model AP-19 lounge chair designed by Hans J. Wegner for A.P. Stolen. Features accommodating wingback form with signature flared arms, tufted back, and loose seat cushion. Legs and “paws” are solid teak with warm patina. Originally designed in 1951, A.P. Stolen produced the Papa Bear from 1953 to 1969. Described by one critic as having “great bear paws embracing you from behind,” the chair is as comfortable as it is charming. A rare and respected example of Wegner’s innovative approach to furniture. Solid and in excellent vintage condition with recent burnt orange wool upholstery.
