Possibly Morocco, ca. 1920s or 1930s. A striking pair of substantial earthenware table lamps with matte black glaze. From a large and early collection of predominantly North African art, it is believed these were acquired in Morocco or possibly Algeria before WWII. Each features substantial handmade construction with applied points. Reminiscent of Gurunsi pieces from Burkina Faso or possibly Lobi. Possess great scale with a graphic look and attractive texture. Mounted with wood bases and tops. In overall excellent vintage condition with minor signs of age. Dimensions: 12” diameter x 27.5” high; 15” diameter x 10” high (shade).
