USA, ca. 1930s or 1940s. A lovely nude watercolor by Olive Susanna DeLuce (1888-1970). The second daughter of American painter Precival DeLuce, Olive came from a family rich in artistic merit dating back to her great-great grandfather, Thomas Thompson (1776-1852), who studied with Sir Joshua Reynolds in London. A devoted art educator as well, she taught in New York City, Ohio, and Missouri. In the 1930s, DeLuce traveled to Paris where she studied with Georges Goetz and André L’Hote. DeLuce retired from teaching as head of fine arts at Northwest Missouri State College in 1958. In 1965, the newly constructed Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building was dedicated in her name. A casual and sensitively rendered painting in overall excellent condition. Dimensions: 19” wide x 20.5” high x 1” deep.
