England, ca. 1905. An Arts & Crafts vase by The Duchess of Sutherland Cripples Guild or D.S.C.G. Features silverplate over hand wrought copper body with hourglass shape. Formed by Lady Millicent Fanny St. Clair-Erskine, Duchess of Sutherland in 1900, the Guild was formed to take action on behalf of the injured children from the Staffordshire Potteries, which were notorious for their unsafe working conditions. Members of the Guild were taught craft skills and then produced items for retail. Eventually, a shop was opened on New Bond Street where the Guild was successful at selling to high-end clientele - including the royal family. In overall very good antique with pleasing patina, which could be polished if so desired. Dimensions: 5” diameter x 8.75” high.
