Thomas W. Benton Monotype
Thomas W. Benton Monotype
$2,200.00
USA, ca. 1980s. A moody framed monotype by Thomas Whelan Benton (1930-2007). Born in Oakland, California, and largely active in Aspen, Colorado, Benton is best known for his political posters and his collaborations with Hunter S. Thompson. He created his first anti-war “peace” poster in 1965 and served as a charter member of the Aspen Liberation Front. The straight line found in many of Benton’s works was intended to represent the “hand of man.” While influenced by Hokusai, Rothko, and Morris Lewis, Benton developed a uniquely bold style. Professionally framed and in overall excellent vintage condition. Signature and date to lower right corner. Dimensions: 33” wide x 35” high x 1.5” deep.
