China, ca. late 19th century. A beautiful Canton enamel round box or canister in amazing condition for its age. Named for the principal place of its manufacture, this type of enamel work utilized techniques originally developed in Limoges, France, which were introduced to China in the 18th century by French missionaries. Features colorful pink enamel over copper with traditional floral motifs and characters. Striking green interior includes four compartments perfect for holding jewelry, trinkets, or other items. Would look quite graceful on a dresser or vanity table. Dimensions: 7.5” diameter x 4.5” high.
