USA, ca. 19th century. A lovely antique sailor made cylindrical basket. Crafted from fishing twine during long voyages, baskets such as this were both love tokens and a way to pass the time. Nicely executed with crisp lines and intricate pattern. Finished with a coat of clear shellac, which is original to it and helps it keeps its shape. In excellent antique condition with warm patina.
