China, ca. late 19th century. A well-traveleved campaign trunk or storage chest in camphorwood. Features handmade dovetailed construction with original brass bail pulls. In the 18th and 19th centuries, chests fashioned from naturally fragrant camphorwood became a safe way to transport fabrics, tea, and porcelain from China and Europe. Perfect for blankets or as a rugged coffee table. Professionally refurbished and quite sturdy - yet with age appropriate surface marks and shrinkage cracks that attest to its age.
