Karlene Jean Kantner is a ceramic artist whose work celebrates the expanding relationship between her body, wild places and gardens. She holds a Bachelors of Fine Art in Ceramics from the University of Montana - where she received honors for community arts engagement and reaching. She made work and taught classes at the the Flower City Arts Center in Rochester, NY as an artist in residence. Firing in both an electric kiln and a wood-fired open pit, her work ranges in size and integrates plants with deep sentimentally. She shows her work in solo and group exhibitions and is in the permanent collection the Montana Museum of Art & Culture - plus growing private collections. Currently, Karlene is living and working at Bark Mill Pond in the Berkshires where she continues her research in a land and garden based ceramic practice.

Drawn to the originality and complex process visible in Karlene’s work, we are honored to include her pieces as part of our collection. They are simultaneously raw and refined, ancient and modern, and truly transportive objects to spend time with.
