$375.00

Burma (Myanmar), ca. 1900. A traditional lacquer betel box or kun-it originally used for serving guests. Blended with leaves, nuts, seasonings, and occasionally tobacco, the offering of a betel quid (a mild stimulant) was a symbol of hospitality in many southeast Asian cultures. Constructed of finely woven bamboo covered in thitsi lacquer, this example features Burmese scripts and incised court scenes. Beautifully decorated with brilliant red-orange cinnabar color. In overall excellent antique condition. 6.25” diameter x 5.5” high.
