Dominican Amber Necklace

Dominican Amber Necklace

$495.00

Dominican Republic, ca 1980s. A large and chunky necklace fashioned from rich Dominican amber beads. Mined through a process called bell pitting, which is incredibly dangerous and haphazard. The pits are rarely tall enough to stand in and humidity inside the mines can often reach one hundred percent. Much different from Baltic amber, Dominican amber is nearly always transparent with a higher number of fossil inclusions. Purchased from Jorge Caridad, the owner of the Amber Museum in Santo Doming. A true statement piece that would look dashing against a crisp white shirt. Quite compelling and wonderful to hold as well. Dimensions: 32” long x 2.25” wide (biggest chunk).
