USA, ca. 1930s. An unusual lounge chair manufactured by Modernage Furniture Co. of New York. Attributed to Paul Frankl (1886-1958), who helped bring the Art Deco style to the American mass market. This chair features a streamlined solid wood frame with rich patina. Loose seat and back cushion are upholstered in brown velvet. Well built with interesting joint detail and in excellent vintage condition. Acquired directly from the original family, this great example of Modernist design still feels fresh almost a hundred years later.
