Leslie Mitchell Raku Vase

Leslie Mitchell Raku Vase

$110.00

USA, ca. 1990s. A nicely executed studio vase by Texas ceramicist Leslie Mitchell. Features pleasing shape with intriguing raku glaze, a technique that originated in sixteenth century Japan. As a process, raku involves rapidly cooling a glaze-fired pot. After being fired to 1800 degrees, the hot bisqueware pot is removed from the kiln and placed into a covered container with combustible material such as leaves or straw. Flames from the ignited material create the unique flash effect and crackle pattern. In excellent vintage condition with stamp and signature to bottom. Dimensions: 10” diameter x 8.5” high. Item:
