USA, ca. 1940s. An atmospheric landscape painting by James Woodard Woodruff. Born in south Texas in 1913, Woodruff earned a degree in chemistry and math from North Texas State University in Denton. From 1940 to 1942 he was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a pilot and flight instructor. He then served as a Captain in the US Marines stationed in the Solomon Islands until 1946. In 1949 he earned a Masters in Painting and Fine Arts from Columbia University and spent 1950 at the Art Students League. Woodruff spent the rest of his life teaching in Texas. Nicely framed, signed, and in excellent condition. Dimensions: 10.25” wide x 13.25” high x .75” deep.
